Getting Ready for Ear Hematoma Drainage
Quick answer: An ear hematoma is a collection of blood in the outer ear, often after an injury. Draining it is done to lower the chance of a lasting change in the ear’s shape (cauliflower ear). It is done under local anesthesia through a small incision, with stitches or a bolster to keep the blood from building up again. Afterward, apply antibiotic ointment twice a day and take antibiotics as prescribed.
