What to Bring
- Insurance card (if your plan or coverage has changed)
- Any new medications added since your last visit
- New imaging or test results ordered by another provider
- A written list of questions or concerns for your provider
- Your co-pay payment
What to Expect
- Your provider will review how you have responded to treatment
- Follow-up examination of the relevant area
- Adjustment of your treatment plan if needed
- Plan for 20–30 minutes for a follow-up appointment
- Prescription renewals or referrals as appropriate
Before Allergy Testing
- Stop antihistamines 7 days before testing — including OTC products like Zyrtec, Claritin, Allegra, Benadryl, and Xyzal
- Stop nasal antihistamine sprays (e.g., Astelin, Patanase) for 7 days before
- Tricyclic antidepressants (Elavil, Pamelor) must be stopped 7–10 days before — check with your prescriber before stopping
- Do NOT stop inhaled steroids, nasal steroid sprays, or asthma medications
- Wear loose, short-sleeved clothing — testing is done on the arms or back
- Eat normally before your appointment — do not fast
What to Expect
- Small amounts of allergen extracts are applied to the skin by gentle prick — not injections
- You wait 15–20 minutes for results to develop
- A small raised bump at any site indicates allergy to that substance
- Results are reviewed with you immediately after testing
- Your ENT doctor will use results to build a customized immunotherapy plan
- Mild itching and redness at test sites is normal and resolves quickly
- Plan for 1.5–2 hours for a full allergy evaluation and testing session
Before Your Hearing Evaluation
- No special preparation is required for a standard hearing test
- Avoid loud noise exposure (concerts, power tools) for 24 hours before testing if possible
- Let us know if you have ear canal issues, a perforated eardrum, or active ear infection
- Bring a list of any medications you take — some drugs (ototoxic medications) can affect hearing
- For children: bring a comfort item and arrive well-rested for the most accurate results
What to Expect
- Pure-tone audiometry: you respond to tones played through headphones at different pitches and volumes
- Speech audiometry: you repeat words to test comprehension
- Tympanometry: a small device checks eardrum movement and middle ear pressure
- Painless and non-invasive — no injections or discomfort
- Results reviewed with you immediately by our audiologist
- Hearing aid recommendations made if appropriate, with no-pressure guidance
- Plan for 15–30 minutes for a complete evaluation
Preparing for Your Procedure
- Follow any medication instructions provided — some blood thinners may need to be stopped
- Do not take aspirin or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) for 7–10 days unless your provider approves
- Arrange a driver if sedation or IV anesthesia is used — do not drive after sedation
- Wear comfortable, loose clothing — avoid jewelry around the neck or ears
- Bring your insurance card and photo ID
- If fasting is required, your care team will give specific instructions in advance
- Ask any remaining questions before the day of the procedure
What to Expect
- Depending on the procedure, local anesthesia or IV sedation administered by an Anesthesiologist will be used to keep you comfortable
- Your provider will explain each step before they begin
- Most in-office procedures take 30–60 minutes total
- You will rest briefly after the procedure before being released
- Written after-care instructions will be provided before you leave
- A follow-up appointment is typically scheduled at 1–2 weeks
- Contact us immediately if you experience severe pain, high fever, or significant bleeding
