When to Seek Immediate Care
Most recoveries are smooth — but know the signs that require prompt attention.
Go to the ER or call 911 immediately if you experience:
- Active bleeding that does not stop
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Fever above 101.5°F (38.6°C)
- Severe uncontrolled pain not relieved by medication
- Signs of dehydration (no urination >8 hours, dry mouth)
- Swallowing difficulty causing inability to keep fluids down
- Chest pain or rapid/irregular heartbeat
- Signs of infection: increasing redness, warmth, or pus
