Balloon Sinuplasty Steps
A Simple In-Office Procedure

Balloon sinuplasty is a safe, simple, in-office procedure that gently opens blocked sinus passages with no incisions and no tissue removal. Learn about the three steps involved.

The Procedure

A Safe, Simple, In-Office Procedure

Our balloon sinuplasty treatment is a safe, simple, in-office procedure. First, a tiny balloon catheter is carefully inserted into your nose. The balloon is then slowly inflated. This allows it to gently expand passageways and clear any mucus blockages.

There are no incisions or removal of any tissue with this innovative technique. The entire procedure typically takes just 30–60 minutes, and most patients return to normal activities within 24–48 hours.

Step by Step

The 3 Steps of Balloon Sinuplasty

Step 1 — IV Anesthesia

A board-certified anesthesiologist administers IV anesthesia in our office. You are fully asleep throughout the procedure, breathing on your own with no intubation required.

Step 2 — Inflate the Balloon

A tiny balloon is inserted into the clogged sinus passage and then gently inflated to adjust and expand the passage's shape.

Step 3 — Clear the Cavity

Any infection will be cleaned out with a saline rinse. Then the balloon is removed, leaving an open and clean sinus passage that allows you to breathe freely.

Balloon Sinuplasty FAQs

Yes. Balloon sinuplasty can be a safe and effective treatment option for pediatric patients with chronic sinusitis. Our specialists evaluate each child individually to determine whether BSP is the right approach.
The results are long-lasting. The procedure restructures the sinus openings, and the vast majority of patients experience durable relief from chronic sinus symptoms. Some patients may require a repeat procedure years later, particularly if underlying conditions like nasal polyps or allergies are not managed concurrently.
No. Because balloon sinuplasty does not remove any bone or tissue, it fully preserves your anatomy. This means future treatment options — including traditional sinus surgery if ever needed — remain available.
