Injection Snoreplasty
What Causes Snoring?
Snoring occurs when relaxed soft tissue in the throat — particularly the soft palate — vibrates as air passes through during sleep. While snoring is extremely common, it can disrupt sleep for both you and your partner and may be a sign of a more serious condition like obstructive sleep apnea.
How Injection Snoreplasty Works
Injection snoreplasty is a nonsurgical, minimally invasive treatment performed right here in our office in approximately 15 minutes. A topical and local anesthesia is used to numb the area. A small amount of medication is then injected into the soft palate, which creates a controlled tissue response. Over the following four to six weeks, the treated area stiffens, reducing the vibration that causes snoring.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
Injection snoreplasty is ideal for patients whose snoring originates from soft palate vibration — the most common source. However, a sleep study is required before treatment to rule out obstructive sleep apnea, which requires a different approach.
You may be a good candidate if:
- Your snoring is primarily caused by soft palate vibration
- You do not have obstructive sleep apnea
- You're looking for a quick, nonsurgical option with no downtime
What to Expect
There is little to no pain involved, and you can return to work and other activities immediately. Some patients experience mild throat soreness for two to five days, easily managed with over-the-counter pain relievers and a soft diet. Most patients achieve meaningful improvement after a single treatment, though a second treatment may be recommended at a follow-up visit.
Our sleep medicine specialists will personalize your snoring treatment plan and determine the best approach for your specific needs.
