Why See an ENT Specialist?

The Difference a Specialist Makes

Primary care physicians are excellent generalists — but ears, nose, and throat problems can be complex. When issues are recurring, structural, or failing to resolve with standard treatment, an ENT specialist has the training and tools that a general practice simply doesn't have on hand.

At Capital ENT, we go further than most: our Austin clinic has an in-office CT scanner, in-house audiology, a dedicated allergy suite, and the ability to perform minor procedures the same day. That means you get answers and treatment in a single visit — not weeks of back-and-forth.

  • Board-certified otolaryngologists with subspecialty training
  • In-office CT sinus imaging — no separate imaging visit
  • On-site audiology at Austin & Lakeway
  • Allergy testing & immunotherapy in-house
  • Same-day and next-day appointments available
  • No referral required for most insurance plans

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to see an ENT?
Most patients don't need a referral. Many insurance plans allow direct access to specialists. Call our office and we'll help verify your benefits — we can often get you scheduled same-day or next-day.
How long is too long to wait on an ENT symptom?
As a general rule: if a symptom has lasted more than 4 weeks, returned more than twice in 12 months, or hasn't responded to treatment from your PCP, it's time to see an ENT. For hearing loss or a new neck mass, don't wait — schedule sooner.
Can urgent care treat sinus infections or ear infections?
Yes — urgent care can diagnose and prescribe antibiotics for acute infections. But if infections keep coming back, or if you've already tried antibiotics without success, that's a signal to see an ENT rather than return to urgent care repeatedly.
What happens at my first ENT visit?
Your first visit includes a thorough history and physical exam of your ears, nose, and throat. Depending on your symptoms, we may perform an in-office hearing test, nasal endoscopy, or CT scan the same day. You'll leave with a clear diagnosis and a plan — not just another referral.
Is Capital ENT the same as an "ENT urgent care"?
We're a full-service ENT specialty practice, not a walk-in clinic. However, we keep same-day and next-day appointments available specifically for patients who need prompt attention. If your issue can't wait, call us first — we can often see you today.
