Dizziness is a broad term for feeling unsteady or lightheaded; vertigo is a specific type: a false sense that you or the room is spinning. Vertigo usually points to an inner-ear cause (the inner ear controls balance), such as BPPV, vestibular inflammation, or Meniere's disease, conditions an ENT can diagnose and often treat effectively. If you do, you are not alone. Dizziness and imbalance are among the most common reasons people see a doctor. Determining the cause of your dizziness requires a thorough evaluation of your balance system.
The team of experts at Capital ENT & Sinus Center, including ENT physicians and audiologists, will evaluate the ear and balance system and coordinate your care with other specialists as necessary, such as cardiology or neurology.

Evaluation & Diagnosis
Depending on your symptoms, evaluation may include hearing tests, in-office CT imaging, or referral for vestibular testing or MRI.
In-Office CT Scanner
Our physicians use advanced diagnostic imaging with our in-office CT scanner to provide high-resolution pictures of the middle ear cavity and surrounding structures that may be contributing to your dizziness.
Comprehensive Hearing Tests
Our audiologists use the latest in sound isolation booth technology to obtain highly accurate hearing testing. This evaluation is critical as many causes of dizziness may also cause hearing loss.
Videonystagmography (VNG)
VNG testing evaluates the different parts of the balance system to pinpoint the source of dizziness. While VNG is not performed in our office, we regularly refer patients to trusted specialists for this testing when clinically indicated.
MRI Imaging
When needed, our physicians may order an outpatient MRI to check for abnormalities of the brain or inner ear structures that may be causing dizziness or balance problems.
